Binh Dan Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City has performed 3,500 robotic surgeries since adopting the technology nine years ago, marking a significant advancement for Vietnam in the field of high-tech surgery. The milestone was highlighted during the hospital’s 21st scientific congress, held from Thursday to Friday, with the theme “Connecting International Surgical Experts.”
According to Assoc. Prof. Tran Vinh Hung, the hospital’s director, Binh Dan first explored robotic surgery during a visit to Germany in 2014. By late 2016, it became the first hospital in Vietnam to perform robotic surgery on adult patients.
Since then, robotic techniques have been applied to the treatment of more than 15 complex medical conditions, particularly various types of cancer. In 2024 alone, the hospital conducted nearly 700 robotic procedures, reflecting its growing expertise and capacity.
Vietnam officially gained recognition on the global map of robotic surgery by 2022. Today, Binh Dan Hospital stands out as a top-tier specialized surgical center, known for its excellence in gastrointestinal surgery, urology, anesthesiology, and related specialties.
